Turkish President thanks Vietnam for timely support

(VOVWORLD) -Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Monday thanked Vietnam for the timely support, which he said helps Turkey’s reconstruction and stabilization as he met with international rescuers, including the rescue team of the Vietnam People's Army.

Visiting Hatay and Kahramanmaras provinces to assess the damage as well as earthquake disaster relief and rescue efforts, Erdogan met Major General Pham Van Ty, Head of the Vietnamese rescue and relief team in Hatay, and said he believes the relationship between the two countries will further develop.

The rescue team of the Vietnam People's Army are continuing relief efforts in Hatay. More than 46,000 people have so far been killed in the February 6 earthquake in Turkey and Syria and many are still missing.

On Monday evening, two earthquakes of 6.4 and 5.8 magnitude struck Defne and Samandag district, Hatay province. Reports said at least four people were killed and more than 200 injured. The Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) urged relevant forces to be on alert. Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay warned people to stay away from damaged buildings.
