(VOVWORLD) -Typhoon Bualoi killed 11, left 13 missing, 8 people lost contact, and 33 injured as of Monday noon, according to a fast-track report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Many houses and production and business establishments had their roofs blown off.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s telegram on Monday requested localities to urgently overcome the consequences of the typhoon and floods. He urged encouragement and maximum support for families of victims; free medical treatment for the injured; mobilization of forces to continue searching and rescuing those who are still missing or out of contact.
Efforts should be hastened to ensure accommodation and restore essential activities in transportation, electricity, water, telecommunications, health care, and education, according to the telegram.
In Quang Tri province, one of the hardest hit localities, two fishing boats with 13 fishermen aboard anchored in Bac Gianh ward drifted after their mooring lines were broken. Four of them were able to swim to shore, while nine are still missing.
Le Quang Lam, Head of the Irrigation and Natural Disaster Prevention Department of Quang Tri province, warned: “Storm circulation often causes heavy rain and thunderstorms, depending on the place and time, without any specific rules. People must not be complacent, as the weather is abnormal and the risk is very high. Usually after a storm, people often go to check their property, so they need to watch out.”
