Lang Son province is now included into the UNESCO Global Geopark Network of 229 destinations in 50 countries around the world.
Presenting the certificate to the provincial leaders, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam Jonathan Wallace Baker said the Global Geopark model is where people live in harmony with nature, negative impacts are minimized, livelihoods and socio-economic development are improved.
Lang Son Geopark spans 4,850 square kilometers with a population of nearly 630,000 people. It is one of the largest geoparks in Vietnam embracing valuable geological, geomorphological, and landscape features formed tens of millions of years ago.
Lang Son Geopark was formally recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark by UNESCO in April 2025, becoming the fourth Global Geopark in Vietnam after Dong Van Stone Plateau, Non Nuoc Cao Bang and Dak Nong Geoparks.
