United Nations celebrates its 68th anniversary

(VOVworld) – The United Nations was formed to maintain world peace, prevent armed conflicts, promote respect for human rights, and protect the environment. That was part of the message sent Thursday by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to 193 member states on the 68th birthday of the United Nations, the world largest organization. Ban said the UN has reaped tremendous results through solidarity but it could do even more. Increasing understanding among countries around the globe is helping the UN further its goal of making a better world. Regarding development goals, Ban stressed the need to make development sustainable, protect the environment, and reduce poverty.
