US national security advisor, UN General Assembly president pay respects to Party leader

(VOVWORLD) -US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis paid their respects to General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong at the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, DC and the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN in New York on Friday.

On behalf of US President Joe Biden and the American people, Sullivan extended deep condolences on the passing of General Secretary Trong, a visionary leader and an important partner to the US. According to him, the General Secretary's influence on Vietnam and the world will last for a long time and is reflected through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and an ambitious and dynamic agenda. The US national security advisor said he personally always supports a closer partnership between the two countries and he will remember the leadership and concern of General Secretary Trong.

The same day, President of the 78th United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis paid his respects to the Vietnamese General Secretary at the headquarters of the Vietnam Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. He sent the deepest condolences to the Government, people of Vietnam and the family of the General Secretary. The UN General Assembly President emphasized that Mr. Trong’s leadership, dedication, and wholehearted service to the country have left indelible marks in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

After two days of national mourning on Thursday and Friday, the Vietnam Permanent Mission to the UN received nearly 100 delegates, who paid their respects and wrote notes in the Funeral Book in memory of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
