The Russian delegation is led by Grigory Karasin, head of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council or the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, and Sergey Beseda, adviser to the director of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
The US delegation is headed by Andrew Peek, Senior Director at the US National Security Council, and Michael Anton, a Senior State Department official.
The meeting took place a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a phone call and agreed that the peace process for Ukraine will begin with a ceasefire for energy infrastructure plus technical negotiations on the implementation of the ceasefire in the Black Sea, moving towards a broader ceasefire and permanent peace.
The two Presidents also underscored the need to improve bilateral relations between the US and Russia.
The Monday talks between Russia and the US took place a day after the US-Ukraine talks on Sunday in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
