Vietnam Ambassador commemorates earthquake victims at the UN

(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, extended condolences for the loss of lives and properties to the Government and people of Turkey.

At a ceremony held by the Turkey Mission to the UN on Wednesday to commemorate victims of February 6 devastating earthquake, he said Vietnam has dispatched a contingent of 100 soldiers and police officers to join search and rescue work in Turkey.

The government of Vietnam has also provided emergency aid worth 100,000 USD to Turkey and Syria each. Vietnam would continue to lend a helping hand to those affected in its capability, Giang added.

As of Wednesday, the death toll of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria topped 41,000. More than 105,000 people have been injured and 2.2 million people displaced.
