(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Azerbaijan have elevated their relations to a strategic partnership during Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Azerbaijan on Wednesday and Thursday, at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev.

As part of the strategic partnership, the two sides pledged to deepen cooperation in multiple areas for mutual benefit and to contribute to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity.
During talks with President Aliyev, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam regards Azerbaijan as a key regional partner. President Aliyev said Azerbaijan hopes to cooperate with Vietnam in logistics, seaports, railways, aviation, and renewable energy. He expressed a desire to see more Vietnamese businesses operating in Azerbaijan and pledged to create favorable conditions for them.
The leaders held that the two countries should continue their coordination at multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.
Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge for Azerbaijan to strengthen cooperation with other Southeast Asian countries, while Azerbaijan will serve as a bridge for Vietnam to enhance collaboration with Central Asia.

Both sides emphasized the importance of resolving differences through peaceful means, in line with international law and the UN Charter. They also expressed support for ASEAN's stance on the East Sea issue, in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
At a joint press conference after the talks, Party leader To Lam said that both sides have reached high consensus on solutions to realize the joint statement and enhance bilateral relations. They include increased exchanges at all levels, particularly between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the ruling New Azerbaijan Party and other influential political parties in Azerbaijan.
Both sides will also prioritize implementing existing agreements and cooperation mechanisms and considering establishing new ones; enhancing trade and investment via the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation; and expanding collaboration in energy, oil and gas, transportation, agriculture, and manufacturing.
