Vietnam becomes second largest supplier of white fish to US
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam was the second largest supplier of white fish (mainly pangasius) to the US in the first half of 2024, according the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
VASEP cited data from the International Trade Center (ITC) which showed Vietnam’s white fish export turnover to the US in the first six months hitting 184 million USD, accounting for 21% of the total.
The US is currently the second largest export market for Vietnam’s pangasius products (behind China), which include frozen fillets and dried pangasius.
According to VASEP, pangasius exports from Vietnam to the US recovered since the beginning of this year because the inventory in this market has decreased significantly. In addition, preparations for festivals and year-end holidays have increased consumer demand.
VASEP reported that in the first seven months of 2024, Vietnam earned more than 1.1 billion USD from pangasius exports, up 9% from the same period last year.
