Vietnam calls on Cambodia, Thailand to exercise restraint, fully implement ceasefire deal

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam expressed deep concern about the ongoing tension escalation between Cambodia and Thailand, Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on Monday, adding that as a neighboring country and a member of ASEAN, Vietnam calls on both sides to exercise restraint, not to use force, and fully implement their ceasefire agreement.

Replying to a reporter's question about Vietnam's reaction to the tensions that have erupted between Cambodia and Thailand in their border area, Ms. Hang urged both sides to continue dialogue and peacefully and satisfactorily resolve disagreements on the basis of the fundamental principles of international law, the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Spokesperson Hang said Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to promoting dialogue and ceasefire implementation between the two countries to soon restore peace and cooperation on the border for the long-term interests of both sides and the region.
