PM Chinh commended Malaysia, this year’s ASEAN Chair, and PM Anwar for their active role in promoting a peaceful resolution to border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand. He especially highlighted Malaysia’s efforts in facilitating Monday’s meeting between the Cambodian Prime Minister and Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement, an important first step toward de-escalation.
Vietnam fully supports ASEAN’s initiatives and stands ready to work closely with Malaysia to address regional challenges while upholding the bloc’s solidarity, he affirmed. Vietnam is also prepared to send representatives to ASEAN-led mechanisms to help ensure the implementation of the ceasefire and provide humanitarian assistance to affected populations in both countries.
The two leaders agreed to continue fostering trust and accelerating measures to deepen the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Key areas of focus include innovation, science and technology, and energy cooperation, especially power transmission projects linking Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore as part of efforts to develop an ASEAN power grid.
The two sides also discussed finalizing a rice trade agreement that would help strengthen Malaysia’s food security.
