(VOVWORLD) - President of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez arrived in Hanoi on Saturday morning, beginning his two-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Following the official welcome ceremony, the two leaders held talks.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man said Vietnam closely follows the situation in Cuba, reiterating Vietnam's solidarity, long-standing friendship and consistent support for Cuba.
Man emphasized Vietnam’s consistent policy of urging the US to end its economic and financial embargo on Cuba and welcoming the recent UN General Assembly resolution calling for its removal.

Chairman Man proposed enhanced collaboration between the two National Assemblies in multilateral forums like the Inter-Parliamentary Union, emphasizing the need to support each other on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed Cuba's respect for Vietnam as a model of development and resilience, underscoring Cuba's commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, health, and agriculture.
He praised the robust political ties and close bond between the two Parties which have contributed to socialism building in each country. He highlighted legislative relations as a crucial channel to fortify this partnership.
The two leaders reviewed recent developments, including the September 2024 visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba, which underscored the commitment of both nations to deepen their unique bond.
Looking ahead, the two top legislators called for continued exchanges of delegations at all levels and between parliamentary committees, and friendship groups. They emphasized the importance of legislative bodies in advancing the high-level commitments and agreements signed between the two countries, seeking to amplify economic, trade, and investment cooperation to match their political relationship.
Both sides agreed to convene the second meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in 2025 in Vietnam, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, marking another chapter in the enduring partnership between the two nations.
