(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam, which is experiencing low temperature and downpours in northern areas caused by Lionrock storm, is bracing for another tropical storm called Kompasu, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on Sunday.

Lionrock caused temperatures in large parts of northern and north-central regions to drop by up to five degrees Celsius from Saturday, down to around 19-21 degrees and even 18 degrees in mountainous areas. The storm also caused strong winds and heavy rain, with average rainfall of 100 - 250mm.
On Sunday, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control issued a document to Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An provinces, asking them to ensure safety for workers moving through areas hit by storms and floods.
Initial forecasts show after moving into the East Sea, Kompasu will quickly increase its intensity and is likely to affect northern and north-central provinces of Vietnam on October 13-15.
Weather forecasters warned the northern and north-central provinces will experience heavy downpour over the next 10 days.
Provinces from Hai Phong to Quang Binh have already ordered fishing vessels to move ashore or seek storm shelters to avoid storm’s track. They have also made plans to evacuate local residents from low-lying areas to a higher ground.
Search and rescue forces of these localities have been on standby in case of emergency. The Ministry of Defense said it will deploy 380,000 troops and more than 3,000 vehicles and helicopters to support search and rescue work.
