Vietnam, Guinea-Bissau seek new momentum for cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - The top leaders of Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau agreed to facilitate the exchange of all-level delegations to foster political trust and create new impetus for bilateral cooperation.

During talks in Hanoi on Friday, Party General Secretary and President To Lam and visiting Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló also pledged to expand cooperation in areas where Vietnam has strengths and Guinea-Bissau has needs, such as agriculture, policy-making experience, development models and personnel training.

President Embaló announced visa exemption for holders of Vietnamese diplomatic and official passports.

The two sides promised to support each other at multilateral forums and shared a vision on the importance of ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea.

They emphasized support for the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Following the talks, the leaders witnessed the signing of an MoU on the establishment of a political and diplomatic consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries and another on agricultural cooperation between the two ministries of agriculture and rural development.
