Vietnam helps to shape AI future: UN Under-Secretary-General

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is emerging as a key player in shaping the future of artificial intelligence (AI), a transformative field with significant impacts on the global economy and social structures, said the UN Under-Secretary-General for Digital and Emerging Technologies at  a seminar in Hanoi on Sunday.

Amandeep Singh Gill, who is also the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, said AI's future should not be shaped by a few countries alone.

He sees the UN as a platform for Vietnam to contribute to global AI rules. By joining international initiatives, Vietnam can learn from advanced nations while sharing its own experiences and ideas on AI governance, he said.

The seminar "Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance," hosted by Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology, took place as UN agencies collaborate with the Vietnamese government, offering policy analysis, technical advice, and initiatives on the ethical use of AI. They also support the development of safeguards for Vietnam's digital public infrastructure.
