Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made the statement during talks with his Vietnamese counterpart on Thursday in Warsaw. Mr. Tusk said Vietnam has always been a friend of Poland and is now one of Poland’s most important partners in Southeast Asia.
PM Chinh proposed six groups of measures to enhance relations between the two countries, including strengthening political trust as a foundation for upgrading ties to a strategic partnership, making economic collaboration a pillar of bilateral ties, and achieving a two-way trade turnover of 5 billion USD.
Mr. Chinh said the two should expand cooperation in security and defense, particularly in combating transnational crime and strengthening cybersecurity.
Vietnam and Poland should strengthen coordination and mutual support in multilateral forums like the United Nations and the ASEAN-EU framework, he said. The Vietnamese PM asked the Polish government to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community there and recognize them as an ethnic minority group of Poland.
PM Tusk agreed to consider upgrading Vietnam-Poland relations to a strategic level. He praised Vietnam as one of Poland's most promising markets in the Asia-Pacific region, with growing interest from Polish businesses to expand investment and operations in Vietnam.
Mr. Tusk affirmed Poland's commitment to expediting the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and pledged Poland’s support for the European Commission lifting its yellow card against Vietnam’s seafood exports.
