Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Tra, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN delivered the message in a dialogue entitled “From words to actions: A global ceasefire beyond COVID-19 pandemic” co-chaired by Malaysia, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Egypt, Jamaica, Japan, Oman, Senegal, Slovenia, and Sweden at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Mrs. Tra said that in the current world of instability, the international community should place a high priority on compliance with international law and the United Nations Charter and reaffirm the role of multilateralism with the United Nations at the center. Resolutions of the UN Security Council should be followed.
In order to promote ceasefire, Vietnam believes that it is necessary to strengthen compliance with UNSC resolutions. It’s possible to consider establishing a framework to effectively oversee ceasefire agreements in conflict zones.
Ambassador Tra reaffirmed Vietnam’s effort to lobby the UNSC to adopt a resolution on protecting necessary civil infrastructure and ensuring vaccine distribution during conflicts. She stressed the importance of resolving the root of conflicts, advocate peace, and strengthen resilience to respond to future challenges.
