The spokesperson responded to the press’s request for reaction to a report by the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia concerning humanitarian cooperation in the search for and identification of American service members missing in action during the war in Vietnam.

“These are distorted, false information, and we vehemently refute them,”  she  said.

Humanitarian cooperation in the search and accounting for US service members missing in action during the war in Vietnam has been actively and effectively implemented by the Governments of Vietnam and the US for many years, helping to identify and repatriate the remains of thousands of US personnel, Hang added.

This very meaningful result contributes to promoting cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war and is a vivid demonstration of the humanitarian spirit, contributing to strengthened trust and friendship between Vietnam and the United States. The effectiveness of Vietnam's MIA cooperation has been recognized and applauded by the United States, and is considered a model in international relations, the spokesperson went on.

In the future, the two countries will continue to fully cooperate in this area in a manner conforming with the spirit of the joint statement on elevating Vietnam-US relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, she said.

In a report on June 21, the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, headquartered in Virginia (USA), said that while they acknowledge Vietnam's cooperation, they are concerned about the high cost associated with the efforts.
