Vietnam to host International Conference of UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in Asia-Pacific

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will host the eighth International Conference of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network for the Asia-Pacific Region from September 5 to September 17 in Cao Bang province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.

Themed "Local Communities and Sustainable Development in Geopark Region," the event is expected to attract 800-1,000 delegates. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, the conference is not just an event of Cao Bang province to preserve and promote Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark, it’s also a festival of localities that hold UNESCO titles.

Chairman of the Cao Bang provincial People's Committee Hoang Xuan Anh stressed the importance of this event as an opportunity for Cao Bang to share its experience in developing and managing geoparks, as well as to promote the province’s tourism.

The conference will include sessions of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, the 20th anniversary celebration of the Global Geoparks Network, exhibitions, fairs and other festivities to popularize Cao Bang tourism.
