At the reception in Hanoi on Monday, President Cuong congratulated the Ambassador Knapper on the successful conclusion of his term in Vietnam with many outstanding achievements. President Cuong reviewed some notable events in Vietnam-US relations during Ambassador Knapper's tenure, including the upgrading of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the highest level of cooperation in Vietnam's foreign policy.

The President expressed his gratitude to the US Government and Embassy for providing over 2 million USD in aid to Vietnamese localities affected by natural disasters last year.

He said Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification, being a friend, a reliable partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community. Vietnam wishes to boost relations in such areas as politics and diplomacy, economics and trade, security and defense, education, people-to-people exchanges, science and technology, humanitarian aid, and post-war recovery, he added.

Ambassador Knapper said he is confident that the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to grow stronger, remain a model in international relations for reconciliation, put the past behind, and look towards the future.

The Ambassador said that regardless of his position, he will continue to contribute to the extensive development of relations between the two countries at bilateral, regional, and global levels.
