Talking to the Vietnamese community at “Homeland Spring”, the biggest cultural event for overseas Vietnamese (OVs) on Sunday, when Tet nears, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai said the 500-Vietnamese-community in India is developing.
Last year, thanks to the support of the Embassy, the Association of Vietnamese People in India was established. There will be an Association of Vietnamese People in Nepal soon to promote the role of the community support and mutual assistance.
Ambassador Hai noted that in the past year, the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership developed substantially and effectively with bilateral trade turnover reaching 15 billion USD while people-to-people exchanges increased strongly thanks to 67 direct flights between the two countries every week. Indian visitors to Vietnam grew more than 20% with more than 500,000 arrivals last year.
Last Saturday, a similar get-together was held by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Mumbai, involving Vietnamese people living, studying and working in the southwestern state of Maharashtra.
