Vietnamese doctors transplant kidney, liver simultaneously

(VOVWORLD) - For the first time in Vietnam, doctors at the Vietnam-Germany Hospital in Hanoi have successfully performed a kidney and liver transplant at the same time for one patient, the Hospital announced on Wednesday.

Also for the first time, the Hospital has transplanted a lung for a patient with heart failure. The two complicated transplant surgeries involved hundreds of doctors.

The kidney and liver were donated by a 19-year-old in Bac Giang province who was pronounced brain-dead after a traffic accident. The Vietnam-Germany Hospital also transplanted a lung, heart, and second kidney from this donor.
