Vietnamese rescue workers active in quake-hit Turkey and Syria

(VOVWORLD) - The enthusiasm and professionalism of Vietnamese rescue workers has been applauded by their Turkish and international peers.

On Sunday, the second day of joining international rescue forces in the Turkish city of Adiyaman, the Vietnamese rescuers used specialized, modern equipment brought from Vietnam along with local vehicles and machines.

Forces of Vietnam and Pakistan discovered three bodies in the rubble and worked on multiple plans to get them out as soon as possible.

Major Nguyen Van Can, Deputy Head of the Department of Rescue, University of Fire Prevention and Fighting, said, “Despite unfavorable weather and the danger of further collapse, we were able to get very close to the victims. Their bodies will soon be taken out and brought back to their loved ones.”

On Saturday, the first day of their mission, the Vietnamese rescue force and the Pakistani army jointly saved a 14-year-old teenager who was buried in the rubble for five days.

76 servicemen of the Vietnam People's Army on Sunday evening boarded a Turkish Airlines flight to Turkey to join disaster relief efforts, bringing with them more than 42 tons of specialized equipment and supplies.

More than 33,000 people were killed in the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria last Monday.
