Vietnamese, US lawmakers highlight cooperation opportunities

(VOVWORLD) -Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Quang Phuong on Wednesday received visiting US Senator Tammy Duckworth in Hanoi.

Vice Chairman Phuong expressed his hope that the US will help Vietnam improve its United Nations peacekeeping capacity and search and rescue in disasters to cope with climate change. He also called for support for the removal of Vietnam from the list of 12 non-market countries and recognition of Vietnam as a market economy.

The NA Vice Chairman emphasized that Vietnam considers cooperation between the two legislatures as one of the pillars in the two countries' relationship. As 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of normalization of Vietnam-US relations, Vice Chairman Phuong said he hopes that the two sides will increase exchanges and experience sharing in operations between the two legislative bodies as well as their advisory and serving agencies and among parliamentarians, especially young parliamentarians.

Senator Duckworth said that the visit shows the US Senators delegation’s respect for promoting relations between the two countries and the two parliaments. The US Congress recently passed a number of bills to open up opportunities for cooperation between the US and other countries, including Vietnam, in manufacturing, she added.
