Vietnam’s investment in people and culture drives national happiness: UNESCO chief in Vietnam
(VOVWORLD) - Head of the Representative Office of UNESCO in Vietnam, Jonathan Baker, has hailed Vietnam’s remarkable progress in improving people’s well-being, saying the root of Vietnam’s success is its strong investment in people.

Speaking on the occasion of International Day of Happiness on March 20, Mr. Baker said Vietnam has increased financial support for its education system to the benefit of teachers and students. At the same time, Vietnam is among the world’s leading nations in recognizing culture as a vital component of development. Investment in culture and national identity has significantly contributed to people’s happiness, he noted.
According to the UN official, Vietnam’s policies on science, technology and innovation, the reaffirmation of culture as a foundation and driver of sustainable development, and resolutions on education and public healthcare reflect a consistent and integrated approach. This strategy aligns economic transformation with investment in human development, social cohesion, and overall quality of life.
Mr. Baker said Vietnam is steadily progressing toward its goal of becoming a high-income nation by 2045. To sustain this growth and achieve its other ambitions in the years ahead, he suggested that the country continue investing in education, science, technology, innovation, and culture.
