They reflected on Vietnam’s heroic struggles for national liberation and its subsequent achievements in nation-building and development.
American social activist Juliet Ucelli said Vietnam’s historic victory ignited a global wave of liberation. Oppressed peoples everywhere embraced President Ho Chi Minh’s declaration that “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” learning that self-determination was possible for all.
Ucelli said the past 80 years have witnessed Vietnam’s great success in defending the nation, preserving peace, and fostering development. Vietnam’s revolutionary cause has enjoyed steadfast support from friends and progressives worldwide. Inspired by Vietnam, others have launched their own movement to liberate people of color and defend women’s rights.
Praising Vietnam’s independent, self-reliant foreign policy, Ucelli noted that Vietnam is making positive and meaningful contributions on the global stage at multilateral forums like the UN. Since its renewal, Vietnam has made significant socio-economic progress, enhanced social security, and raised the standard of living of its people.
