WB pledges 4 billion USD in IDA for Vietnam

(VOVworld) - Vietnam is the second country to be provided with nearly 4 billion USD from the WB’s International Development Assistance (IDA) resource, visiting WB President Jim Yong Kim told President Truong Tan Sang at their meeting in Hanoi on Thursday.
President Truong Tan Sang praised the World Bank’s cooperation with Vietnam and its effective assistance to Vietnamese localities in poverty reduction, and noted with satisfaction the achievements from his meeting with WB leaders during his US trip. He noted that Vietnam is restructuring the national economy and State-owned enterprises to ensure sustainable economic growth.
The country is focusing more on improving the quality of human resources and vocational training. As a country heavily impacted by climate change, Vietnam is paying attention to carrying out programs and projects on disaster prevention, environmental protection and clean energy, Sang said, adding that Vietnam wishes to boost fruitful cooperation with the WB to achieve the best performance.

WB President Jim Yong Kim said he is happy to witness the dramatic changes in the capital city of Hanoi after 15 years away from Vietnam. The country’s achievements have encouraged the international community to implement the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) more effectively. The WB is keen to step up cooperation with Vietnam, assisting it to develop an effective comprehensive development strategy. Jim said the WB pledges to help Vietnam insure the effective use of capital, build training programs, improve the health system, adapt to climate change, and find renewable energy resources, aiming to boost per capita GDP growth.
