World Environment Day marked in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - The southern city of Vung Tau on Monday launched a campaign to plant 1 million trees in response to World Environment Day (June 5).

Nguyen Van Tai, Director General of the Vietnam Environment Administration, spoke at the launch ceremony: “The call to plant trees was first made by President Ho Chi Minh. The movement, which used to involve only government agencies and local residents, is now responded by businesses. They also contribute funding to help address environmental pollution and reduce disaster risks”.

An Action Month for the Environment was launched in Ba Ria- Vung Tau province earlier.

Under the theme “Connecting People to Nature”, This year’s World Environment Day event aims to encourage the public to protect the earth and the harmonious relationship between humans and nature.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment took this occasion to present the 2017 environment awards to 50 people and groups.
