(VOVWORLD) - Pursuant to the orientation of sustainable industrial development and smart urban areas, Binh Duong is forming green industrial parks (IPs) to attract “clean” capital flows, and modern and environmentally friendly technologies to increase added value and competitiveness. Businesses have transformed themselves in response to Binh Duong’s initiative.

Binh Duong has 33 industrial parks, 28 of them in operation, covering nearly 12,000 hectares and with an occupancy rate of 93%. According to a plan until 2030, Binh Duong will develop 10 new IPs on 16,000 hectares.
For the new zones, the province intends to develop eco-industrial parks to attract investment in automation, smart processing, clean energy, renewable energy, products with high export value, and industrial services.
Truong Van Phong, Deputy Head of the provincial IP Management Board, said that in order to expand IPs, Binh Duong will submit to the Prime Minister for approval plans that give priority to developing IPs in its northern districts.
“Binh Duong’s orientation is to develop eco-industrial parks and green industrial parks. The province plans to establish an industrial park belt in the North and move projects located near residential areas in the South to the North,” said Phong.
Binh Duong is following the global trend of developing green eco-industrial parks. The most difficult challenge will be to modernize the old IPs. The provincial authorities have asked IP investors to ensure that at least 25% of the IP area is reserved for greenery. At least 20% of the enterprises in the IPs will use resources for clean production and at least 10% will participate in industrial symbiosis.

Mai Hung Dung, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said the locality will adopt support policies for investors in line with regulations.
“We’ll build roads to the industrial parks, ensure security and order, and support businesses in doing a green, clean, smart eco-transformation,” said Dung.
Binh Duong is encouraging businesses to move to a green production model to protect the environment. This is a global trend and embracing it will enhance the reputation and competitiveness of businesses domestically and globally.
Businesses in Binh Duong have been moving toward green development. Denmark Group’s LEGO factory in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 3 (VSIP3) is one example. To minimize its environmental impact, LEGO, within a year of starting construction, has planted 50,000 trees near the factory, twice the number of trees removed to build the factory. The trees include seven different species native to Vietnam, ensuring long-term biodiversity.
LEGO’s factory in Vietnam has been designed to realize the Group’s sustainability goals, which include reducing carbon emissions 37% by 2032.
Preben Elnef, Vice President of the LEGO Group and General Manager of LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam, said, “This is the first time we have tried that in our factories as well, generating power, our own power we consume. We have chosen solar power."
"We’ll have a solar power, a big set on our rooftop that will be filled with solar panels, and also actually parts of our car and motorbike park. But in the next factory, we’ll also have a big block for our main source of power from the solar,” said Elnef.
Switching to green production increases competitiveness, but the way to achieve green, sustainable production is being debated. Businesses need appropriate support mechanisms, policies, programs, and a clear legal corridor.
Nguyen Van Loi, Secretary of the Binh Duong Party Committee, said the provincial administration has asked state management agencies to work with the business community to understand their difficulties and design policies that take them into account.
“The provincial Party Committee and People's Committee will spend time working with the business community to find out what difficulties businesses are facing, what suggestions they have, and what bottlenecks need to be removed. If any issues exceed our authority, we’ll report to the central Government. We believe that with this approach, we’ll all succeed and grow,” Loi added.
Binh Duong’s determination to greenify its industrial parks has been attracting investors and making it a key industrial province in Vietnam. This will help Binh Duong realize its aspiration of becoming one of Vietnam’s most prosperous localities.
