HCM city goes all out in its largest-ever immunization drive

(VOVWORLD) - HCM city has mobilized 5,000 medical workers for its largest-ever immunization drive, delivering more than 800,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses in seven days. Vietnam’s largest economic hub is racing against time as it now has the second highest COVID-19 infection count in the country.

As soon as the Government allocated 836,000 vaccine doses to Ho Chi Minh city, the municipal Health Department deployed 1,000 vaccination teams with at least 5 personnel each.

Within one day, the Vietnam Vaccine Company (VNVC) set up 100 teams for the mass vaccination campaign, according to Director Bui Kim Khanh.

“All 350 doctors and medical workers involved have a practicing certificate, have been vaccinated with two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and have participated in the vaccination drive since March 8. We have mobilized our best staff to carry out the city’s urgent vaccination campaign,” he said.

Doctor Vu Kim Hoa of Thu Duc city Medical Center said that health stations are extremely careful in scheduling its staff because of the current excessive workload – tracing, taking samples for testing in high-risk areas, vaccinating priority people, maintaining regular medical examinations, and administering medication to chronic patients.

“If there are any abnormal post-vaccination symptoms within 7 to 14 days, people should look up the QR code, notify the vaccination authorities for their post-vaccination statistics, and receive instructions or contact phone numbers for the proper response,” said Hoa.

Businesses in HCMC have helped the health sector by making lists of their employees with all information necessary for post-injection management and monitoring.

They have strictly complied with prevention measures and explained the importance of vaccination, according to Nguyen Van Khoa, CEO of FPT Corporation.

“We have told employees how to fight the coronavirus epidemic and how the COVID-19 vaccines can ensure that they can keep their jobs and the company can continue to operate,” said Khoa.

As of Monday noon, HCM city had the second highest number of COVID-19 infections in Vietnam in the ongoing coronavirus wave, at more than 3,200, just after the northern province of Bac Giang.

The city has set a target of vaccinating 200,000 people per day during the current campaign and completing the vaccination of two-thirds of the local population this year.
