Mr. Vinh made the statement at a 'Development Partnership Conference on Mine Action in Vietnam' organized in Hanoi on Thursday by the Steering Committee of the Vietnam National Mine Action Program.
He said every year the Vietnamese government spends a great deal of resources on demining to re-create land reserves and support bomb and mine victims. The government has focused on improving public awareness of the possible risks. Communications have been enhanced to help the international community better understand the real situation in and efforts being made by Vietnam to handle the after-effects of bombs, mines, and UXO left over from the war.
So far, Vietnam has received a great deal of assistance and cooperation from foreign friends through the sharing of experiences and resources.
Also on Thursday the headquarters of the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC) was inaugurated in Hanoi’s outlying district of Thach That.
