Overseas Vietnamese inseparable from the nation

(VOVWORLD) - Overseas Vietnamese around the world will gather for the Homeland Spring program held in HCM City on Thursday and Friday. The program, also known as the Lunar New Year or Tet celebration, is one of several activities that reflect the consistent policy of the Party and State for the Vietnamese community abroad.

The Vietnamese Party and State consider overseas Vietnamese people an integral part and an important resource of the nation.

Correct, consistent policy

For more than 20 years, since the adoption of the 9th Party Central Committee’s Resolution 23 on promoting the strength of great national unity, Vietnam’s views and policies on overseas Vietnamese affairs have been consistently reflected in all documents. These include the Politburo’s Resolution 36 on Overseas Vietnamese affairs adopted in 2004, Directive 45 on continuing to promote the implementation of Resolution 36 adopted in 2015, and Conclusion 12 on Overseas Vietnamese affairs in the new situation adopted in 2021.

These guiding documents emphasize the role, position, and importance of Overseas Vietnamese in the great national unity bloc and unanimously affirm the spirit "Overseas Vietnamese people are an integral part and a resource of the Vietnamese nation, an important factor in strengthening cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and other countries."

The project "Promoting the resources of Overseas Vietnamese to serve national development in the new situation" was launched in November, 2023, to mobilize Vietnamese expats to participate in national development, industrialization, and modernization and make Vietnam a developed, high-income country by 2045 set out by the 13th National Party Congress.

The project also upholds the responsibility of the political system in Overseas Vietnamese affairs through institutionalizing guidelines and policies in investment, business, science, technology, immigration, nationality, and home ownership in order to ensure the legitimate rights of Vietnamese expats when they return home. Vietnam has also strengthened the network of Overseas Vietnamese.

Overseas Vietnamese trust in Party, State policies

Vietnam’s national renewal and great national solidarity policies are supported by Overseas Vietnamese. Ninh Viet Thong, who lives in Bangkok, said: "The 2013 Constitution, Article 18, states that Vietnamese living abroad are an integral part of the Vietnamese nation. We’re very happy and proud of that stipulation. We’re proud to be Vietnamese, children of legendary father Lac Long Quan and mother Au Co."

Many Overseas Vietnamese have effectively engaged in business, investment, science, technology, education, culture, arts, sports, and humanitarian activities in Vietnam.

Nguyen Van Kim, who lives in the US, said: "Returning home, I’m happy about the strong development of the homeland and the warm welcome I received. I want to help the poor and contribute to the development of rural areas."

The role and prestige of Vietnamese community in their countries of residence has increased, strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and those countries. Associations and organizations of Overseas Vietnamese have been strengthened and expanded.

About 6 million Vietnamese are living in 130 countries and territories, 80% of whom are developed countries. The number of Vietnamese studying, working, and investing overseas and getting married to foreigners is growing.
