(VOVWORLD) - Localities across Vietnam are organizing a series of activities throughout June to raise public awareness about ocean conservation in response to Vietnam Sea and Island Week and World Oceans Day (June 8).

Efforts focus on strengthening communication, tackling marine plastic and solid waste, and launching beach-cleaning drives.
“It’s necessary to develop a new ocean economy based on knowledge, technology, and innovation for sustainable seafood production and the protection of fragile marine ecosystems,” Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Minh Ngan said.

Dang Le Thuy Trang, a youth union member from Quang Binh province, said, “Every year, we organize various campaigns to protect the marine environment, including beach clean-up drives. During Vietnam Sea and Island Week, we proudly take part as active supporters.”
Since 2009, Vietnam Sea and Island Week has been held annually to promote public engagement in protecting the country’s marine resources and environment.
