EU warns of strong response if US violates bilateral tariff agreement
(VOVWORLD) - The European Union warned it will respond firmly and proportionately to any violation of its tariff agreement with the US after the Trump administration launched new trade investigations this week.

European Commission spokesman Olof Gill said Thursday that Brussels will seek clarification from Washington on how opening a Section 301 investigation will affect the EU-US agreement struck last year.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the Trump administration will conduct two separate probes focused on overproduction and goods made with forced labor. The overproduction inquiry will target the EU and several other countries.
Next week, members of the European Parliament Committee on International Trade will review and approve a proposal to remove tariffs on US industrial goods, a step implementing Europe’s commitments under the current agreement.
