Iran names Khamenei's son Mojtaba as new supreme leader

(VOVWORLD) - Iran’s Assembly of Experts on Sunday officially announced the election of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as the country's third supreme leader. 

Mojtaba, born in 1969, is considered a hardliner and a direct continuation of his father, who was killed in the joint US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

On Sunday, the ninth day of the conflict in the Middle East, Israel launched at least five airstrikes against Iran, who launched nine ballistic missile attacks against Israel. Tehran said it was not seeking a ceasefire and demanded an apology from the US for initiating the war.
