This is the first State visit by a Vietnamese President to Egypt since 2018, and the highest-level visit to Angola by a Vietnamese leader since 2008. In 2025, Vietnam and Angola will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
The outcomes and shared understandings to be reached between President Luong Cuong and the leaders of both countries will serve as an important orientation for the future development of bilateral ties.
Creating breakthroughs, elevating Vietnam-Egypt relations
President Cuong’s visit to Egypt from Sunday to Wednesday is of strategic importance as both nations enter a new era of development.
“The visit reflects a strong commitment to creating breakthroughs to elevate bilateral relations, reinforce political trust, and deepen the traditional friendship. It will usher in a new phase of cooperation, particularly in economics, trade, and investment between Vietnam, Egypt, and other African nations,” Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Nguyen Huy Dung said.
President Cuong will hold high-level talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and meet with other top leaders. Building on a strong bilateral relationship, the two countries are expected to elevate their ties to a Comprehensive Partnership, opening up new cooperation opportunities. Egypt is an important market for Vietnam in North Africa, with bilateral trade exceeding 541 million USD, the highest in the region.

“The two countries have complementary strengths. They are large markets with populations exceeding 100 million people and hold strategic geopolitical positions globally,” Ambassador Dung said.

At the 8th Future Investment Initiative Forum in Saudi Arabia in October 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly agreed to encourage mutual investment in multiple areas such as electric vehicles, software, renewable energy, green transition, digital transformation, Halal food, and food security, aiming to elevate economic relations to a new level, he noted.

Strengthening Vietnam-Angola cooperation across multiple sectors
Meanwhile, Vietnam and Angola enjoy a long-standing traditional friendship and cooperation in many areas. They have supported each other in their struggles for national independence and development, as well as at regional and international forums.
President Luong Cuong’s visit to Angola from Wednesday to Saturday provides an opportunity for both sides to review the outcomes of past cooperation and outline measures to strengthen bilateral ties. The two countries are expected to sign a number of important agreements to facilitate economic and broader cooperation.
Angola is a country with significant development potential, a young and abundant workforce, and high consumer demand. Its government has focused on diversifying the economy, enhancing domestic production capacity, particularly in agriculture and consumer goods, and investing in transportation and telecommunications infrastructure. Meanwhile, Vietnam is promoting exports, including to African markets.
President Cuong’s visit to Angola, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, is an important opportunity to bolster bilateral ties and cooperation between Vietnam and the African Union. It also positions Vietnam as a bridge for ASEAN-African Union cooperation.
