Spring comes early to Vietnam's seas and islands

(VOVWORLD) - As the Lunar New Year approaches, ships laden with Tet gifts set sail, bringing the warmth of spring to the officers, soldiers, and residents of island districts and offshore oil rigs. These ships carry more than sticky rice, pork, flowers, fruits, cakes, and essential goods—they also deliver the heartfelt affection of people on the mainland to those steadfastly guarding the sovereignty of Vietnam’s sea and islands.

Last weekend, a delegation of the Naval Region 5 Command in Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province, paid a New Year visit to soldiers and residents in the southwest sea area, including Hon Chuoi, Hon Khoai, and Tho Chu islet. The delegation comprised 200 representatives from different southern provinces and businesses.

Colonel Hoang Quoc Hoan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Naval Region 5 Command, said: "The aim of this activity is to encourage officers, soldiers, and residents in the southwest sea area to fulfill their duties."

On January 1, two ships carrying Tet gifts and necessities departed Vung Tau to deliver warm wishes and supplies to the DK1 platform, Station 590, duty ships, and authorities in Con Dao district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Colonel Tran Manh Chien, Political Commissar of Naval Region 2, said the gifts have encouraged the islanders and soldiers to overcome difficulties to fulfill their task of defending national sovereignty.

These days, ships from Naval Region 4 are delivering delegations, goods, and Tet gifts to Truong Sa island district in Khanh Hoa province.
Colonel Bui Van Ben, Chief of Political Affairs for Region 4, said:  "This is a profound source of spiritual encouragement for officers, soldiers, and residents at the forefront, helping them maintain their resolve, excel in their duties, and steadfastly protect the sacred sovereignty of our sea and islands. We hope this trip will teach a vivid and practical lesson about the challenges and dedication of the naval force and give the media an opportunity to portray the lives of those stationed on the frontlines."

Over hundreds of nautical miles, Tet goods have traversed stormy seas to reach Truong Sa and other islands and rigs across Vietnam’s maritime territories. These gifts bring a spring atmosphere along with love, trust, and support from the people on the mainland to encourage officers, soldiers, and residents on the frontlines and help them enjoy a warm and satisfying Lunar New Year.
