Vietnam’s Book and Reading Culture Day will kick off at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi next Wednesday. Activities will feature various themes such as “A Precious Book for You”, “A Good Book Needs You”, and “Book Gift”. There are online book festivals, hybrid book festivals, cashless book fairs, and many communications activities to promote books and reading culture with online newspapers and social networks.

An exhibition of valuable book collections will be held at the special national historical site – the Temple of Literature – and photos and books on Vietnam’s land and people as seen on modern electronic platforms as well as print editions. The event, the third of its kind, is expected to feature over 40,000 book titles from 60 publishers, businesses, and technology enterprises.

Nguyễn Nguyên, Director of the Authority of Publication, Printing and Distribution of the Ministry of Information and Communications, said: “We have organized many book fairs and festivals. However, we mainly target domestic readers. This time there are also activities to serve overseas Vietnamese and international friends. The exhibition will be run on the ‘Vietnam.vn’ platform and link with ‘Book 365’. In addition we will also launch a “Book and Reading Culture Day” with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.”

Publishing and distribution units will organize numerous promotional programs from April 17 to 21 for readers both in-person and online to encourage them to buy and read books.

This year’s “Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day” is associated with the major holidays of Southern Liberation and National Reunification celebrated on April 30 and on May Day.
