Youth Month and the digital transformation movement

The Youth Union of Quang Ninh province launched Youth Month 2023 in March where members are encouraged to introduce their ideas and initiatives to promote digital transformation and young cadres and public employees are asked to fulfil their responsibilities. Task forces of young people have been set up to help achieve digital transformation at public service centers. The "Volunteer Saturday" movement has young volunteers teaching people to use digital platforms and applications for personal identifications, social insurance, health insurance and cashless payment services.

Nguyen The Vinh, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Mong Cai city, said: “During Youth Month, we have organized numerous activities involving young local people. We worked with schools to promote online learning and communications between parents, students, and Youth Union organizations. We also developed a QR code to access tourist information in Mong Cai.”

Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Minh Triet said: “We encouraged young people to engage more in digital transformation. First, we strongly focus on the Vietnam Youth Application. This app helps Youth Union organizations and young people use advanced technology to do things more conveniently and economically. We also help the public security sector strengthen its management of citizens and help people access information technology and digital transformation models. For organizations at all levels, we adapt digital transformation to the needs of young people and the socio-economic development of each locality.”

During Youth Month, there were two peak days when young volunteers helped local people use online public services and Youth Union members create digital maps and digitize documents and information about historical and revolutionary relic sites.

Young people are the vanguard of in national digital transformation

Promoting young Vietnamese as the vanguard of digital transformation is the policy of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders.

At the launch of the Youth Month, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said: “We need to strengthen communications to raise the awareness of young people nationwide about digital transformation and arouse their desire for innovation, creativity and mastery of science and technology, so they can quickly access the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It’s necessary to associate digital transformation with socio-economic development, with Youth Union members being the core, pioneering, leading force.”

At a meeting with the Secretariat of the Youth Union on Tuesday, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue stressed the vanguard role of young people in national digital transformation. He praised the theme ‘Digital transformation’ of this year’s Youth Month, and said digital transformation is an important and urgent task to enable Vietnam to integrate deeply into the world.

The theme echoes the directive of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Youth Union Congress in December 2022 which said the youth must be the pioneers of production, creativity, innovation, and national digital transformation. The NA Chairman said he believed that with support of the Party and State, Youth Union members and other young people will exploit their strengths in digital transformation to build a digital government, a digital society, a digital government, and a digital population in Vietnam.
