Education technology, a lucrative market in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Teachers, students, and education staff account for about 20-25% of Vietnam’s population, which is a huge, lucrative EdTech market. At the Education Technology Exhibition (EdTech 2024) and the launch ceremony of the White Book on Education Technology in Vietnam last Saturday, participants discussed how digital transformation in Vietnam’s education will open opportunities for tech companies to conquer this market.

Dr. To Hong Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Information Technology at the Ministry of Education and Training, says the EdTech will serve about 22 million students, 1.6 million teachers, 53,000 schools, and 400 universities. Vietnam’s EdTech market, he said, is huge and growing more lucrative.

“Education and training is one of the eight priorities for national digital transformation. Digital transformation in education and training involves transformation of awareness, policy, human resources, and technology. The last is the most important – creating solutions, services, and hardware and software systems for digital transformation throughout the education sector,” said Mr. Nam.

Vietnam’s EdTech market has seen the influx of foreign tools and solutions. One of the foreign EdTech products entering Vietnam last year was the Ielts Science and Global Exam. Hardware and IoT products for smart schools are supplied by top foreign groups like Samsung, ViewSonic, AWS, KidduHub, GetCourse, G-Asiapac Vienam, VCCorp, and AES.

There are about 750 EdTech businesses operating in Vietnam, providing a variety of hardware and software products and services.

Ha Huu Cuong, a representative of the Dai Phat company, a distributor of Samsung interactive displays, said: “Students and teachers can interact directly with each other and the lessons on the Samsung WAD interactive display series. It creates more excitement and stimulation in learning than the traditional method. For example, the teaching software supports three-dimensional geometric images and the teacher uses it instead of drawing by hand.”

Vietnam’s big companies like Vietnam Airlines, FPT, VNPT, Viettel, and EVN have recently built their own education and training systems to up-skill and re-skill their employees.

Vu Van Hieu Thanh, Sales Manager of Bizfly, orperated by VCCorp, said his company offers customized Bizfly Martech, Bizfly Cloud, CRM products for organizations, businesses, universities, and schools to digitally transform their management and education activities.

“We’ve produced AI products to help educational centers with enrollment, make online learning more interesting, and help teachers create livelier, more informative lectures, mark tests, manage classes, and review academic performance. Associate Professor Doctor Nguyen Tan Hung, an expert on AI in education, said that in remote areas, people with no teachers can use Internet e-Learning. Recently cities and provinces have been investing in virtual schools and virtual classrooms that can reach people in remote localities.

“Vietnam now has a very good technology foundation with a 4G network that covers remote localities in every province. Children everywhere have access to computers and smart phones at their school. People in remote mountain areas don’t need the latest expensive hardware and software because more and more solutions are available via cloud computing. Technology has improved educational equality,” said Mr. Hung.
