Vu Quoc Huy, Director of the National Innovation Center (NIC), made the statement at a ceremony to launch of the report “Vietnam’s AI Economy 2025” in Hanoi on Thursday.
AI could contribute 5 trillion USD to the global economy by 2030 and Vietnam must seize this historic opportunity to assert its firm position in the field, said Huy.
“Vietnam is determined to establish a strong position in this key sector by promoting cooperation with leading countries, economies, and global technology corporations,” said Huy, adding, “The NIC has worked with JICA to develop the report. This is the first document to provide a comprehensive overview of Vietnam’s AI economy, offering international experience and lessons for AI development, analyzing opportunities in key economic sectors, and proposing strategic pillars for the growth of the AI economy.”

According to the report, AI will become a core factor in Vietnam’s economic growth by 2040, said Arnaud Ginolin, Managing Director of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Vietnam.
“We see at stake by 2040 a 120 billion USD economic value for Vietnam, which is around 25% of today's GDP. So it's a sizable gain at stake for Vietnam to unlock this value through AI, mostly through value creation revenue, but also efficiency,” said Arnaud, adding, “In Vietnam, I think AI economy at its initial stage, but ramping fast, with first use cases being deployed nationwide by governments and also private sectors, and especially a significant pool of IT talents that can be re-shifted to AI purpose.”
Panel discussions on technology trends, policy mechanisms, and effective AI application models were held at the launch ceremony. The discussions were focused on building a robust innovation ecosystem, laying the foundation for the sustainable development of AI technology in Vietnam towards comprehensive digital transformation and promoting socio-economic growth in the next development phase.
The launch ceremony was jointly held by the NIC of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
