(VOVworld) - The Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab on Friday warned of new attacks in Kenya, a day after it attacked Moi university campus in Garissa, killing 147 people. "There will be no more safe place for Kenyans as long as their troops are in Somalia," al-Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage told pro-insurgent radio Andalus. He was referring to Kenya's participation in a 20,000-strong African Union force helping the Somali government battle al-Shabaab. Kenya, meanwhile, has been mourning the victims as the Daily Nation newspaper quoted government officials as saying that the death toll could rise as whereabouts of some students and university staff remains unclear.

On Friday, President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamudhas strongly condemned this attack, calling it a barbaric act, which has nothing to do with religion or culture, and sent his condolences to the victims’ families.

President of the African Union Commission Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma criticized the terrorist attack, noting the Union will support the Kenyan government and people in the fight against terrorism.

Also on Friday, Pope Francis condemns 'senseless brutality' of Garissa massacre, calling the authorities to double effort to end violence targeting Christians.

From Washington, US President Barrack Obama phoned Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to extend his condolences to the victims’ families and said he’ll visit Kenya this July as scheduled. Omaba pledged US support for Kenya in the fight against terrorism.
