At a reception for Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on Tuesday, the Sultan said Brunei is ready to receive more Vietnamese guest workers and import Vietnamese rice.  He agreed to Foreign Minister Minh’s request that Brunei releases Vietnamese fishermen, who have been captured recently, on humanitarian basis.

In a meeting with Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei’s Foreign and Trade Minister, the two sides reached consensus on organizing practical activities to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties on February 21st, and increasing high-level meetings and exchanges.

The two ministers confirmed the need to maintain peace, stability, security, and free navigation in the East Sea, and solve problems through peaceful means with respect to international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the sea, and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea toward the Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

Minister Minh said Vietnam supports and is ready to cooperate with Brunei during its ASEAN Chair next year. The two diplomats were committed to working together with other ASEAN countries to build a united and strong ASEAN community by 2015.
