Vietnamese athletes head to Paris Olympics

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam’s 39-member delegation are leaving for the 2024 Paris Olympics as a send-off ceremony was held in Hanoi for them on Wednesday by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The delegation including 16 athletes from 11 sports, 16 coaches, and 2 doctors is led by Dang Ha Viet, Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam. At the send-off ceremony, Viet said archer Do Thi Anh Nguyet and badminton player Le Duc Phat will be flag-bearers for Vietnam in the opening of the Olympics.

“Vietnam Sports Delegation has received great attention from the Party and State leaders and long-time investment, more than ten years ago. In late 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stressed the need to "elevate Asian Games and Olympics aspirations" and has adopted specific and long-term solutions to how Vietnam sports can compete successfully in the Asian Games (ASIAD) and Olympic arenas,” according to Viet. 

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong said delegation members should always be exemplary, humble, and friendly and comply with the Games’ regulations. 

“Competing in the largest sports arena on the planet, members of the Vietnam Olympic Delegation must play honestly, nobly, tenaciously and creatively, surpassing yourselves to achieve the best of yourselves. Be a shining example of personality, bravery and will for the young generation across the country to follow,” he said. 

French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet presented flowers, mascots, and best wishes to the Vietnamese delegation before they departed to the Olympics.

The Paris Olympics taking place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris and surrounding areas is gathering the world's best athletes competing in 329 events of 32 sports.
