World leaders, UN leaders send condolences over the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

(VOVWORLD) - The heads of countries and the United Nations have sent condolences to Vietnam over the passing away of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On behalf of the government and people of Thailand, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin sent his deep condolences to the government and people of Vietnam, and the Party General Secretary's family.

Mr. Thavisin expressed his admiration for Mr. Trong’s important and exemplary contributions to Vietnam's national construction and development, as well as the relations between Vietnam and Thailand, particularly upgrading the two countries' relationship to a strategic partnership during the General Secretary's historic visit to Thailand in 2013.

The Indian leaders expressed their respect for the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, affirming to stand side by side with the leaders and people of Vietnam, and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in this grieving moment.

General Secretary of the Korean Workers' Party Kim Jong Un said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong devoted great efforts to strengthen friendly and cooperative relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Vietnam. He emphasized that Mr. Trong's merits will remain forever in the revolutionary history of the Vietnamese people and the friendly relationship between the two countries.

The RoK’s President Yoon Suk Yeol sent a telegram to express his sincere condolences to the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese people for losing a respected leader. The contributions and aspirations of Mr. Trong for the brilliant development of Vietnam and the friendly cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the RoK will forever remain in the minds of the two countries' peoples.

US President Joe Biden sent condolences on Friday to Vietnam, in which he said “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a champion of the deep ties between the American and Vietnamese people whose leadership helped nurture the friendship and partnership our countries enjoy today.”

“The United States – and I personally – will remember and appreciate his commitment to reconciliation and to building a future oriented toward peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and around the world,” Biden said.

Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio expressed his grief and condolences over the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and praised his role in building close cooperative relations between Japan and Vietnam in many fields and the Vietnam-Japan comprehensive strategic partnership.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and President of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis sent their deep condolences to the State and people of Vietnam and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. They said General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a pivotal figure in Vietnam’s recent history.

During Mr. Trong's tenure, “Vietnam continued its remarkable development journey to emerge as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and an important partner for the United Nations," said the UN leaders.
