If implemented, the proposal will mark a breakthrough in the negotiation process aimed at gaining a long-lasting peace in Columbia. Santos proposed an internationally monitored ceasefire agreement as part of the 3-year peace talk between Columbia’s government and FARC. FARC implemented a unilateral truce in July and has many times urged the Columbian government to respond with a bilateral truce. On October 21, Columbia’s People Protection Organization confirmed that FARC has honored its own unilateral truce since September
