“I really would like to be able to meet with President Putin soon to get that war ended. And that's not from the standpoint of the economy or anything else. It's from the standpoint of millions of lives being wasted,” Trump said in his video to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Delivering his first speech to the WEF since returning to the US presidency on Monday, Trump called on OPEC to lower oil prices as a step toward easing the conflict. He also urged China to work with the US to help resolve the Ukraine crisis as soon as possible.

Trump criticized the large trade deficit between the US and the EU, as well as the reluctance of many EU countries in NATO to increase their defense spending. He reassured Europe that the US will continue to supply sufficient liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the region.

Trump also declared that the US no longer needs Canadian oil, repeating his controversial claim that Canada should become a US state.
