The province also plans for total seafood production to exceed 6 million tons, with the fisheries sector’s production value expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.26% by 2030.

According to Nguyen Thanh Dieu, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, achieving these targets will require focused investment in comprehensive fisheries infrastructure. Key initiatives include developing fishing ports, storm shelter zones for fishing vessels, concentrated aquaculture areas, and systems to monitor and manage fishing vessel operations at sea.

Additionally, the province will accelerate the application of science and technology, promoting bio-secure and disease-safe production models, assigning farm area codes linked to traceability, food safety standards, and Good Aquaculture Practices (GAP).

Dong Thap will also manage and protect aquatic resources in coordination with aquaculture development while ensuring a harmonious balance with other economic sectors such as tourism, energy, transport, urban development, and industry.
