Bo told Vietnamese media that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made important contributions to the development of Vietnam-China relations. He was the nucleus in building the theory and implementing the bamboo diplomacy, that Vietnam befriends with all countries.

Ambassador Xiong Bo said that under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnam's external affairs have achieved important results, with priority given to developing relations with neighboring countries, big countries, and traditional friendly partners, and steadfastly supporting multilateralism.

The Chinese Ambassador said General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made important mark in promoting the Vietnam-China relations.

During a visit to Vietnam at the end of 2023 by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, Vietnam and China defined a "new positioning" for bilateral relations, elevating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.  

US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper said Vietnam and the US have lost a visionary leader who served as a bridge between Vietnam and the US, as well as the entire international community over many decades.

He said that he appreciates General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for elevating Vietnam-US bilateral relations to new heights. The General Secretary was the first Vietnamese Party leader visiting the US, which demonstrated great commitment to friendship, while shaping the future-oriented relationship between the two countries.

Mr. Trong's legacy was further cemented when bilateral relations were upgraded to a comprehensive partnership in 2013 and, a decade later, to a comprehensive strategic partnership, said the US Ambassador.

The US will be forever grateful for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's leadership in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity. The US values its relationship with Vietnam and looks forward to working closely with all leaders of the Vietnamese Party, State, and National Assembly in the coming time, said the US Ambassador.
