G7 affirms commitment to peace in Africa
(VOVWORLD) - The G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US and the High Representative of the European Union have reiterated their commitment to supporting African nations in the pursuit of peace, stability, sustainable development, and the creation of jobs and growth.
The statement, released following a G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Italy, said the G7 will continue to build equitable and sustainable partnerships with Africa based on result-based initiatives, aligned with the African Union Agenda 2063 and integrated African thematic plans to jointly tackle global challenges.
The G7 said they will continue to strengthen the G7 Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) in African and initiatives like the EU Global Gateway. PGII offers a framework for building sustainable, climate neutral, inclusive, resilient, and economically viable infrastructure, underpinned by high standards and transparent project selection, procurement, and finance.
They will also support integrated African plans for improved local and regional infrastructure, trade, and food security. Pilot programs will be linked to economic corridors like the Lobito Corridor in southern and central Africa.
